Honestly, I chose an HBCU because I wasn’t exposed to other colleges and/or universities. Plus, I wanted to be around students who were just like me. Now, I wouldn’t change my decision. Being at an HBCU allowed me to embrace my culture even more as well as acknowledge that I can compete on any level if I would have considered other colleges. I felt represented. All students in the school have access to counselors and other support staff throughout the school and district. That said, I wish they would teach more black history. Future students, remember to embrace your culture. Be yourself in any room. Research. Ask questions.
