Tiffany, Class of 2023
I chose this school because I thought that UNC would be very fun, however, I would not choose to go to this school again. It is very cliquey, especially between ethnicities and races. But I would also say that within the black community, it’s very cliquey as well. If you’re not a “popular student” within the black community, you’re not a part of the clique. I am a part of the executive board for the Black Student Union. I feel like being on the board helps a lot, especially when it comes to contributing ideas to bring to the table. Before I was a part of the board, I would go to BSU just so I would be in the community with other black students. We also have the Marcus Garvey cultural center, catered to black students. We also have Black Campus Ministry (which I am a part of the core team) which is a black Christian group. These organizations help a lot with supporting students. I do not really feel represented unless I’m at those black student organizations. The university just acknowledging our experiences as black students, not just from those black student organizations, would be very helpful in general. Prospective students should just be mindful of this university. I want to point out that this is a PWI, so it can be hard at times. But get involved with those black organizations.
